Magic Job Search Words: Follow-Up! Follow-Up! Follow- Up!
Many otherwise savvy businessmen and businesswomen flunk job searching—essentially
handing over prime opportunities to their competition—all because they do not complete
the follow-up phase. It is not enough to simply prove that your unique talents and
abilities match the employer’s expectations. Don’t depend on the hiring manager
to keep the dialogue going forward. Promote her action on an offer by demonstrating
that you a) really want this opportunity more than anyone else; b) are persistent
despite formidable obstacles; and c) voluntarily take initiative to complete tasks.
Assume that the decision-maker is busy and has other priorities. Stay top-of-mind
with reminders about how you can reduce costs or make more money to balance the
expense of adding you as the newest member of the team.
